It was included as "In Paddy's Love" in the 1817 music manuscript collection of Patrick McGahan ofDungooley, County Louth, on the Armagh border. The title may possibly reference the tune's use in St. Pierre's ballet "Paddy's Love", staged in Dublin in 1805. It was still being performed by St. Pierre and company (as "Erin's Isle; or, Paddy's Love) in 1819
