OAKEN LEAVES [1]. AKA and see - "Touch and Take." English, Country Dance Tune (6/8 time). A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). One part. The tune was originally printed by John Playford in his Dancing Master, second edition (1652), under the title "Touch and Take." Commencing with the Dancing Master, 5th edition of 1675 (p. 91) the title was changed to "Oaken Leaves," and the tune and dance retained in subsequent editions through the 8th edition of 1690. Thereafter, Henry Playford, John's son, dropped the piece from the long-running series of Dancing Master editions.
