GREEN SHADES OF GASK, THE. Scottish, Jig (6/8 time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. The celebrated lyricist ("The Laird o' Cockpen") Lady Nairne, Carolina Oliphant (1766-1845) was born and died at the family home in Gask, Scotland in central Perth and Kinross. Gask was a community that built up around the manor, Gask House, located on a ridge. There was a Roman road along the crest of the ridge that linked signal stations, and the remains of a large Roman camp are situated near Gask House.

Cape Breton fiddlers have played the tune under the title "Green Shades of Gasque," a nod to the intermingled French culture of the island.
