REEL DES COLONS [1]. AKA and see "Charlie Drody's Em Tune," "Quadrille "Laurier" 6ème partie," "Quadrille de campagne 6ème partie." French-Canadian, Reel (cut time). E Dorian/Major (mixed tonality). Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The reel, recorded as "Reel des Colon" by Bernard Morin in 1938, is a variant of the Irish reel "Rolling in the Barrel (1)," with parts generally reversed. Isidore Soucy had earlier recorded two versions of the tune in 1927 under the titles "Quadrille "Laurier" 6ème partie" and "Quadrille de campagne 6ème partie" for Starr and Columbia records, respectively. Montreal fiddler Jean Carignan also recorded a version of the reel. A version of the reel was in the repertory of the Drody family of Douglastown, eastern Gaspé, Québec, and is known as "Charlie Drody's Em Tune."
