HORSE IN THE POUND. AKA and see "Carolan's Favorite Jig," "Humours of Dublin (2) (The)," "Mary O'Neill (1)," "Rutland Jig (The)." Irish, Jig (6/8 time). The tune appears under this title in the mid-19th century music manuscript collection of County Cork Anglican cleric and uilleann piper James Goodman (Book 4, p. 1). The tune also can be found in Stanford's edition of George Petrie's collection of Irish music (1905, No. 981) as "Carolan's Favorite Jig," and in the Gows' Complete Repository Part 1 (36) as "Humors of Dublin (2) (The)." Breathnach finds the title "Rutland Jig (The)" in use in County Leitrim.
