JENNY, COME TIE MY CRAVAT [1]. AKA and see "Garter (The)." English, Scottish; Country Dance Tune (2/2 time). C Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. The melody dates from to 1686 when it was first printed in John Playford's Dancing Master, 7th edition. It was retained in the long-running series through the 18th and final edition of 1728 (then published by the Playfords' successor, John Young). Versions also appear in Walsh's Compleat Country Dancing Master (London, 1718, 1731 & 1754) and in James Oswald's Caledonian Pocket Companion (vol. 6, 1760, p. 14).
