GARDINER'S FAVOURITE [2]. AKA and see "Bird in the Cage, "Donegal Lassies (2)," "London Lassies", "Maid in the Rushes (The)," "Streams in the Valley", "Turnpike Gate (2) (The)." Irish, Reel. Ireland, County Sligo. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The "Gardiner's Favourite" title comes perhaps from the famous pairing of this tune (as "Streams in the Valley") with "Gardner's Favorite" in 1928, when it was recorded for Columbia records by the duet of John McKenna (flute) and James Morrison (fiddle). Because "Gardner's Favorite" was the first-named tune of the medley, it became attached in usage to "Streams in the Valley" as well.
