CARLTON COUNTY BREAKDOWN. Canadian, Reel. Canada, Prince Edward Island. A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Composed by Earl Mitton (1926-1991), a native of Stewiacke, Nova Scotia. He learned to fiddle as a child, and in the 1960's played with his band (The Valley Rhythm Boys) on radio and television out of Saint John, New Brunswick. He appeared on the Don Messer television show and recorded for several Canadian labels. Perlman (1996) notes this is a very popular tune on Prince Edward Island, particularly in the western regions.
