ELLEN O'LEARY'S. AKA and see "Woods of Old Limerick (The)." Irish, Jig. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. "Eireann Go Brach" is a version of this tune, or vice-versa. The tune is named after source Johnny O'Leary's daughter, Ellen O'Leary; a favorite of hers.

Source for notated version: fiddler Paddy Lyons via accordion player Johnny O'Leary (Sliabh Luachra region of the Cork-Kerry border). O'Leary remembers Lyons would visit the west Kerry region: "He knew (fiddler) Pádraig O'Keeffe well. He slept one night with Pádraig O'Keeffe. The two of them were playing all night. I'd say they were in no bed. There was no sleeping, only playing" [Moylan].

Printed sources: Moylan (Johnny O'Leary), 1994; No. 99, p. 57.

Recorded sources: Topic 12T357, Johnny O'Leary - "Music for the Set" (1977).
