BIRCHARD'S HORNPIPE. Old-Time, Hornpipe or Breakdown. D Major. Standard tuning. AA'BB'. A popular modern "old-time" composition by California fiddler Michael Springer, often mistaken as a traditional tune. The tune also has considerable currency among contra-dance musicians. It was named for Barbara Birchard, of Venice Beach, who traded shiatsu massage treatments for fiddle lessons for her husband John.
