FRANCIS JOHN McGOVERN. Irish, Reel. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. The title honors the late musician Francis John McGovern whose main instrument was the fiddle, but who also played the whistle, flute and uilleann pipes. McGovern hailed from north Leitrim, and lived and played in the area around Bundoran. Flute player Brian McGovern is Francis John's nephew, and plays his uncle's instrument. The tune is a north Leitrim version of "Worn Torn Petticoat (The)" and "Old Torn Petticoat."
