GILLESPIE'S HORNPIPE ("Crannciuil Mic Gilla-Epscoip" or "Cornphiopa Mhic Ghiolla Easbaig). AKA and see "Devil's Dream (2)," "Leinster Hornpipe (The)." Irish, Hornpipe. A Major (O'Neill): G Major (Breathnach). Standard tuning (fiddle). AB (Breathnach): AABB (O'Neill). See also "Devil's Dream (2)," the title under which the tune was printed by Glasgow publisher James S. Kerr in the early 1880's.
Source for notated version: fiddler Alex Kerr (Co. Antrim, Ireland) [Breathnach]; "J. O'Neill" [O'Neill], referring to Chicago Police Sergeant James O'Neill, born in County Down in the late 1860's--James served as O'Neill's transcriber and collaborator on his early volumes.
