BOSCAWEN'S FROLICK. English, Jig. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The melody is unique to London publisher Charles and Samuel Thompson's 1765 country dance collection. The title probably refers to a victory of Admiral Edward Boscawen (1711-1761), who distinguished himself at the taking of Porto Bello in 1730 and the Acadian fortress of Louisburg in 1758, and in saving England from a French invasion fleet in 1759.

Printed source: Thompson (Compleat Collection of 200 Favourite Country Dances, vol. 2), 1765; No. 77.
