BREFNI O'REILLY. Irish, Reel. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AA'BB'. Composed by County Cavan/Philadelphia fiddler and composer Ed Reavy (1898-1988). Ed's son Joseph explains that the title refers to one of the "landed names" of Cavan and of the same, older region called Brefni.

Printed source: Reavy (The Collected Compositions of Ed Reavy), No. 30, p. 32.

N:Is one of the landed names of Cavan and of old Brefni
N:before it. The O'Reillys have spread far and wide to wherever the
N:immigrant has ventured in his many meanderings. This title could well
N:be our proud county's battlecry, or the triumphant chant of a Cavan
N:footballer scoring a winning goal at Croake Park.
