BRIDGET CRUISE [4]. AKA and see "Young Bridget." Irish, Planxty (3/4 time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). One Part. The composition is often attributed to Turlough O'Carolan, and though Donal O'Sullivan included the melody in his definitive work on O'Carolan, he noted that there was not incontroverable evidence that it was composed by him. Collector Edward Bunting, noted O'Sullivan, noted it in 1792 from "an old man at Deel Castle", near Ballina, County Mayo, adding that it was "very ancient, author and date unknown." O'Sullivan believes it is clearly not very ancient, but included it in the collected works of the bard, in deference to Francis O'Neill.
