BUTTER THE OTHER SIDE. Old-Time, Breakdown. USA, Missouri. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AA'BB'. Composed by Missouri fiddler Fred Stoneking (b. 1933). Drew Beisswenger (2008) relates that Fred had not title for the tune (which he had been playing for some 20 years), but hit upon it one day when his wife charred one side of his toast at breakfast. She buttered the light side, but Fred suggested buttering the other side to mask the taste.
