BEAVER, THE. English, Jig. A Major. Standard tuning. AABB. Could refer to the fashion for beaver fur hats. Prior to Charles and Samuel Thompson's publication, the melody appeared in John Hinton's Universal Magazine of Knowledge and Pleasure (London, 1758).
