FATHER WALSH'S HORNPIPE. Irish, Hornpipe. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The 'Father Walsh' of the title was the Reverand J.T. Walsh, pastor of St. Patrick's parish, East Hampton, Connecticut, a native of County Waterford and a fiddler in his younger days. The tune comes from a MS. collection he sent to collector Francis O'Neill after O'Neill's first publications, hoping he would help preserve the music. O'Neill himself gave the tune this title in honor of the cleric. Not to be confused with the similar title "Father Jack Walsh," a different, 6/8 time melody.
