KILLALOE BOAT, THE (Bád Chill Dalua). AKA and see "Boholla Jig (1)," "Coffee and Tea," "John Conroy's," "Lilt from Home (A)," "Lilting Banshee," "Miller of Glanmire (The)," "Ryan's Favorite." Irish, Double Jig. A Dorian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB (Roche, Tubridy): AA'BB' (Flaherty). A popular jig under several titles. Killaloe is in County Clare on the River Shannon at the end of Lough Derg. The name is derived from the Irish term Cill Dálua, (Killaloe), or the 'Church of St. Lua', the name of a sixth century monastic establishment of St. Lua, which first stood on a small island in the Shannon, before being moved to the mainland nearby, in what is present-day Killaloe. At one time there were falls near the bridge at Killaloe, although the have since disappeared due to a rise in the water level from a hydroelectric project. Musically, the turns of the settings of "Killaloe Boat" printed by Roche and Flaherty are different. "Lilting Banshee" is a related tune, as is O'Neill's "Miller of Glanmire."
