Crodh Chailein
CRODH CHAILEIN (Colin's Cattle). Scottish, Slow Air (3/4 time). D Major (Martin): E Major (Neil). Standard tuning (fiddle). One part. The melody is thought to have been composed by Isabel Cameron of Mull. One of the Gaelic fairy songs (Orain Shidhe), it tells the story of the beautiful bride of Colin who was enchanted by fairies on her wedding day. Her fate was for one year's time to be allowed home each day to milk the cows, and though Colin could hear her singing, she was forced to remain invisible to him. After the specified period the spell was broken and she was restored.
