CRAIGENROAN. Scottish, Reel. C Major. Standard tuning. AABB'. Composed by Alexander Walker, born in Rhynie, Strathbogie, Aberdeenshire, in 1819. Walker was an accomplished fidder, and an inventor and agriculturalist. He was employed by Sir Charles Forbes of Castle Newe as a gardener, and Forbes also became his musical patron, helping him publish his collection in 1866 in Aberdeen. Walker emigrated to the United States in the late 1860's, following family, and settled in Northampton, Massachusetts, where he established a prosperous farm. He continued to compose in the United States, although the output is lost. He died around the end of the century. According to the Gazatteer of Scotland, Craigenroan is "a small island in the Moray Firth, Craigenroan lies off the Craig Head promontory to the west of Findochty in Moray."
