LADIES OF LEINSTER, THE ({Na} Mna Uasle {Ua} Laigeann). AKA and see “Ladus (The),” "Prohibition (The)." Irish, Reel. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB (O'Neill/1850 & 1001): AA'B (O'Neill/Krassen): AABB (Mulvihill). The melody appears in William Bradbury Ryan's Mammoth Collection (1883) as "The Ladus", probably a corruption of "The Ladies", short for "Ladies of Leinster." It was recorded in New York in 1922 as the first tune in a medley called "The Prohibition" by Sligo fiddle masters Michael Coleman and Tom Gannon.
