LADY MUIR MACKENZIE. AKA and see "Captain David Stewart 42nd Royal Highlanders. Afterwards General Stewart," "General Stewart," "Mrs. Muir MacKenzie." Scottish, Canadian; Reel. Canada, Cape Breton. C Major/Mixolydian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB (Cranford): AABB' (Skye). A "double tonic" composition attributed to William Gow (1751-1791), eldest son of Niel Gow, by MacDonald (Skye Collection). The tune is often played in D Major/Mixolydian by Cape Breton fiddlers, with whom the tune is very popular. See also the related "Irvine Steeple."
