LIMERICK IS BEAUTIFUL. Irish, Air (3/4 time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). One part. "Old Limerick song, learned from my father" (Mulvihill). Mulvihill's father's song dates back to the 19th century and appeared in several versions. The words below belong to Michael Scanlon (1836-1900), who also penned "Jackets Green (The)" and "Bold Fenian Men."

Oh, Limerick is beautiful as everybody knows,
And by that city of my heart how proud old Shannon flows;
It sweeps down by the brave old town, as pure in depth and tone,
As when Sarsfield swept the Saxons from the walls of Garryowen.
