BELLE ASSEMBLEÉ, LA. English, Country Dance Tune (6/8 time). B Flat Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. In addition to the jig's appearance in London publishers Samuel, Ann and Peter Thompson's Compleat Collection, vol. 5 (1788), the melody appears in Longman, Lukey, & Broderip's Bride's Favourite Collection of 200 Select Country Dances, Cotillons (London, c. 1776), and Longman and Broderip's Compleat Collection of 200 Favorite Country Dances (London, 1781). In the early 19th century the name "La Belle Assemblée" was used by publisher John Bell for a successful women's magazine [1].
