COLONEL BOYLE OF SHEWALTON. Scottish, Jig. B Flat Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). ABB. Composed by Nathaniel Gow (1763-1831). Colonel John Boyle (1765-1837), a country gentleman from the estate of Shewalton, Ayrshire, was brother to David Boyle, an advocate and Lord Justice-General. He was a 1788 graduate of Balliol College, Oxford, commissioned Lt. Colonel of the Ayrshire militia, and elected a Grandmaster (1804-1805) of the Killwining Lodge of the Masons. He died unmarried, his estates succeeding to his brother.
