COLONEL GARDEN'S BIRTHDAY. Scottish, Strathspey. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. Composed by Kirkmichael, Perthshire, teacher, fiddler and composer Robert Petrie (1767-1830). He included it in his Second Collection of Strathspey Reels and Country Dances (1796, p. 15), one of several tunes named in honor of the Garden family. The whole volume is dedicated to Petrie's patron and employer, Mrs. Garden of Troup.
