COAL VALLEY. Old-Time. C Major. Recorded by Alabama fiddler Charlie Stripling (1896-1966) for Decca in 1936 in New Orleans, and named for a mining camp where the Stripling Brothers performed. Stripling composed this and other tunes (see "Kennedy Rag") as a "ragtime-breakdown" as a response to the demand form more modern dances, such as the Fox Trot and Two-Step.
