LORD WILLOUGHBY('S WELCOME HOME). AKA - "Lord Willoughby's March." AKA and see "Rowland." English, Country Dance Tune (4/4 or cut time). E Minor (Raven): G Minor (Chappell). Standard tuning (fiddle). AB (Chappell): AAB (Raven). Walker (1924) calls the tune "buoyantly vigorous." It appears in The Fitzwilliam Virginal Book (the title given as "Rowland," set by the composer William Byrd), Jane Pickering's Lute Book, Lady Neville's Virginal Book, Robinson's School of Musick (1603), and Nederlandtsche Gedenck-clanck (1633, appears as "Soet Robbert" and "Soet, soet Robbertchen"). In the ballad Lord Willoughby is an English captain fighting in Flanders in the 16th century.
