LUM HAT, THE. Scottish, Hornpipe. A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABBCCDD. Composed by self-taught fiddler and composer Bert Murray (b. Aberdeen, 1913). The tune is dedicated to Tam Reid, the 'king of the bothy ballad singers,' one of whose favorite songs was "The New Lum Hat" (or, "The Lum Hat Wantin' a Croon", words by David Rori).
