MABEL WALTZES. English, Waltz. C Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The waltz was composed in the 1860's by Daniel Godfrey (1831-1903), the son of the famous English bassoonist and conductor, Charles Godfrey. Daniel studied at the Royal Academy of Music, where he stayed on as Fellow and Professor of Military Music. For forty years, beginning in 1856, he served as Band master of the Grenadier Guards (not the Coldstream Guards, as appears on the original sheet music). Godfrey first toured the United States in 1872.
