VALSE PHILIPPE. AKA and see "Hommage à Philippe Bruneau," "Valse Americain (La)." French-Canadian, Waltz. G Major ('A' part) & E Minor ('B' part). Standard tuning (fiddle). AA'BB'. Composed for the melodeon by fiddler Gilles Losier (Montreal, Québec), who prefers his own title, "Valse Philippe," for the tune, although the name "Hommage à Philippe Bruneau" seems to enjoy considerable currency. On his 1984 recording there were words to the tune by Leonard Forest that employed old Acadian French. Matthiesen (1995) says the tune has surfaced in France as "Valse Americain (La)."
