Annotation:Lady Balcarras
Back to Lady Balcarras
LADY BALCARRAS. Scottish. John Glen (1891) finds the earliest printing of the tune in Robert Riddel's 1782 collection (p. 57). Elizabeth Dalrymple Lindsay, the Countess of Balcarres, was a patroness of Edinburgh musicians and was herself an accomplished keyboard player. She composed tunes, one of which, "Lady Eliza Lindsay," a hornpipe written for her ten-year-old daughter, was published in John Watlen's 1791 collection.
