METSÄKUKKIA ("Flowers of the Forest," "Forest Flower Waltz" or "Woodland Flowers"). Finnish, Waltz. USA, northern Wisconsin, Massachusetts. G Minor (Matthiesen): A Minor (Johnson). Standard tuning (fiddle). AABBCC (Johnson): AA'BB'CC' (Matthiesen). A very popular tune in Finland. The tune has been picked up by American contra-dance musicians, and some wag invented the alternate title "Meadow Cookies" (i.e. cow pies, cow dung) in imitation of the Finnish.
