CHÈRE TOUT-TOUTE (Dear Everything). AKA - "Chere Toutou." Cajun, Waltz. USA, Louisiana. A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AA(Vocal)BBAA(Vocal)AAAA. A popular Cajun tune recorded many times, though first by J.B. Fusilier, who named the song for his daughter ("Tout-Toute" being a nickname meaning "my everything"). Raymond Francois (1990) notes that this is often the opening song played by a Cajun band because it is so familiar as to be effortless and therefore confidence-building, and that it helps to make sure the instruments are tuned properly. Many of the older violin players, he says, play the first three measures of the turn an octave higher.
