LASSIE OF GOWRIE, THE. AKA and see "Paddy O'Flynn," "Wicklow's March (The)," "Nolan the Soldier," "Miners of Wicklow (The)." American, March (6/8 version). USA, southwestern Pa. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Bayard's (1981) fifer source was familiar with the duple time Scots piece called "Lass o' Gowrie (1) (The)," but said this was the "old way" of playing the piece, though they actually have little in common. As "Wicklow's March" the tune appears in the 1777 music manuscript collection of American fifer Giles Gibbs.
