MONROE'S HORNPIPE. Bluegrass, Breakdown. USA, Kentucky. A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Composed by mandolinist Bill Monroe, the "Father of Bluegrass." The tune was recorded by Monroe and his band around 1958, although not released on LP until 1965's "Bluegrass Instrumentals". However, the tune was in Monore's repertoire preceding these events. Some see resemblance to the old-time tune "Big-Eyed Rabbit."
