MOUNTAIN ROSE, THE (Ros an t-Sleib). Irish, Reel. A Dorian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB (O'Neill/1850 & 1001): ABB' (O'Neill/Krassen). The first strain of "Mountain Rose" is cognate with the first strain of a large family of tunes that inlcudes "Ballylander's Reel," "Castlebar Traveler (The)," "Gossan that Beat his Father (The)," “Humors of Loughrea (The),” “Laurel Bush (The),” "Lochiel's Rant," "Lochiel's awa' to France (but he'll come again)," "Long Chase (The)," "Lough Isles Return," "Mulcahy's," "Mulvihill's Reel (3)," "New Year's Night," "On the Sly," "Reel of Bogie (The)," "Showman's Reel (The)," "Spence's Reel (1)," "Style of Ballylanders," "West Gale (The)," and "Yeoman's Reel (The)."
