DUKE OF GLOUCESTER'S QUICK MARCH, THE. Scottish, March (2/4 time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The Duke of Gloucester was a title bestowed on members of the English Royal Family. At the time Glasgow publisher James Aird issued his Selection, vol. 1 in 1782 the Duke of Gloucester and Edinburgh was Prince William Henry [1] (1743-1805), a grandson of George II and a younger brother of George III. He was a soldier and commanded regiments of Foot Guards, until he was raised to Field Marshall in 1793.
