DURANG'S HORNPIPE NO. 2. AKA - "Durang's Hornpipe (3)." Old-Time. USA, Missouri. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AA'BB'. The "Durang's" melody appears to have wandered much in the folk process in this variant, with a quite unique 'B' part. Beisswenger & McCann (2008) suggest that there was a core "Durang's" tune (similar to "Durang's Hornpipe (1)"), and that any regional (Missouri) variant would be called by custom "Durang's No. 2" i.e. the "other" Durang's. Gordon McCann reports that source Galbraith connected his version to "London Hornpipe," while Mark Wilson believes it resembles "Rocky Mountain Goat."

Source for notated version: Art Gabraith (1907-1993, near Springfield, Mo.) [Beisswenger & McCann].

Printed sources: Beisswenger & McCann (Ozarks Fiddle Music), 2008; p. 39.

Recorded sources: Caney Mountain Records CEP 211 (privately issued extended play LP), Lonnie Robertson (Mo.), c. 1965-66. Heritage 060, Art Galbraith (Springfield, Mo.) - "Music of the Ozarks" (Brandywine, 1984). Rounder 0157, Art Galbraith - "Simple Pleasures" (1983).
