BOB STEELE. AKA and see "Miller o' Dervil (The)," "Auld Brig o' Ayr (The)," "New Brig o' Dee (2) (The)," "Johnnie Steele," "Benholm Castle." Scottish, Strathspey. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. Sometimes erroneously attributed to J. Scott Skinner, who published it in his Harp and Claymore (1904) collection. In Skinner's handwritten manuscript the tune is given as "Bob Steele," however, when it was published the title was given as "Johnie Steele." Apparently, either Skinner or his editor had come across the tune printed in Köhler's Violin Repository (1881), where it was attributed to one J. Barnet.
