BOGANUADH, THE. AKA - "Bogannach (The)." AKA and see "Kiss the Lass Ye Like the Best (1)," "New Bob (The)." Scottish, Reel. B Minor (Gow, MacDonald): A Minor (McGlashan). Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB (Gow): AABB (MacDonald): ABCD (McGlashan). McGlashan's reel, "Boganuadh" (New Bob), appears under the "New Bob (The)" title in Gow's Complete Repository, Book 1, and as "Kiss the Lass Ye Like the Best (1)" in MacDonald's Skye Collection (1883). The modern group Silly Wizard recorded the tune as "New Shilling (The)."
There was in fact a new British Shilling by Luis Pingo issued in the year 1787 in the reign of George III (1760-1820), nearly at the time publication of McGlashan's collection. It was the only year of an issue of currency silver until the great recoinage of 1816. There are two different reverses for the 1787 shilling, one with a semme of hearts and one without (both equally valued).
