NEW JERSEY. AKA - "New Jersey Cotillion." American, County Dance Tune or Jig (6/8 time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). The melody appears in John Carr's American publication First Book of Cotillions (1801) as well as numerous other country dance and tune publications and musicians' manuscript collections of the first years of the 19th century. The manuscript copybook of fiddler/violinist Pierre Landrin Duport (compliled over 50 years) contains the tune with the intriguing title "New Jersey Compose In New Jersey 1790, Variations Below No. 8".
