NEW YEAR'S POLKA, THE. English, Polka. England, Northumberland. G Major ('A', 'B', 'C', 'D', 'E' parts) & D Major ('F' part). Standard tuning (fiddle). AABBCCDDEEF. Composed by Robert Whinham (1814-1893), a musician, teacher, composer, dancing master and fiddler, originally from Morpeth. Underneath the title in the manuscript version is a dedication to Miss Thompson, Gofton (see note for "Annotation:Mrs. Thompson of Gofton's Strathspey).
