The melody appears in Walsh's third collection of Lancashire tunes (The THird Book of th eMost Celebrated Jiggs, Lancashire Hornpipes, Scotch and Highland Lilts, Northern Frisks, Morris's and Cheshire Rounds, with Hornpipes the Bagpipe Manner) published around the year 1730 (22v-3).
