CAROLAN'S COTTAGE. Irish, Air or Planxty (3/4 time). A Minor. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB (O'Sullivan, Stanford/Petrie): AABB (Barnes). Composed by blind Irish harper Turlough O'Carolan (1670-1738). Donal O'Sullivan (1958) has little to say about this air, save that it is similar in structure to that of Carolan's "Lament for Terence MacDonough."

Printed sources: Barnes (English Country Dance Tunes, vol. 2), 2005; p. 64 (appears as "The Introdcution", the title of a 1996 dance by Fried de Metz Herman set to the tune).
