NOON LASSES, THE (Gearrchaili na Nona). AKA and see "Loon Lasses (The)," "East Clare Reel (The)." Irish, Reel. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABBCCDD. In County Clare the tune is played as a set dance, says editor Jackie Small (CRÉ V). Breathnach's collection note said source Cathcart was unsure as to whether the title referred to a personal name or a place-name.

Source for notated version: a manuscript written by John and Tommy Gunn (County Fermanagh) at the end of the 19th century; also a sound recording of fiddler John Cathcart (also from County Fermanagh) [Breathnach].

Printed sources: Breathnach (CRÉ V), 1999; No. 119, p. 61.

Recorded sources: Cló Iar-Chonnachta CICD 110, Chris Droney - "The Fertile Rock." Gael-Linn CEFCD 175, Colm Murphy - "The Bodhrán." Ossian OSS 69, Cathal McConnell - "On Lough Erne's Shore" (learned from the Gunn family. A reissue of the Topic album).
