OLD-FASHIONED SCHOTTISCHE. American, Schottische. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). According to Ira Ford, "'Old-Fashioned Schottische' was a popular dance number for many years following the Civil War. It is made up from parts of the music of the above-mentioned song ("Captain with his Whiskers") and of "Sweet Marie"" (Ford, 1940). <blockquote As they marched down this way to the foot of the street,
The band began to play and the music so sweet.
My heart it was enlisted and I could not get it free,
For the Captain with his whiskers took a sly glance at me.
