Scottish, Strathspey. A Dorian. Standard tuning (fiddle). The tune is traditionally played on Cape Breton in a set with "The Black Mill." Gaelic words set to the tune begin:

They pleadingly decry the introduction of the Lowland shepherd and Cheviot sheep to the Highlands of Scotland, an event that led to the infamous clearances.
