OLD SAGE FIELDS. AKA - "Old Sagefields." AKA and see "Old Sage Friend." Old-Time, Breakdown. USA, Cumberland Plateau region of south-central Ky./north Tenn. border. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABBAABBCCDDAA (Phillips): ABACDEBABECDE (Titon). The original title may perhaps be "Old Sage Friend," not "Old Sage Fields." The latter title comes from Kentucky fiddler Jim Bowles (1903-1993) who learned the tune from local musicians, and it was also in the repertoire of Kentucky fiddler Sammy Walker. Irregular in structure, Bowles mixed the parts of the tune on the recording.
